Do you wear a Navratna?

Be it an heirloom or a gift from dad, the Navaratna always beats fashion to emerge as a classic in jewellery.

Ornaments studded with the ‘navaratnas’ or the nine gems, have been in fashion since times immemorial. It is an accepted belief that gems influence life and in connection with this belief, all the nine gems known as the ‘navaratna’ are associated with a ruling planet each.

Astrological studies have always considered navaratnas to be an important influence in an individual’s life. Astrology further enhances this belief that the vibrations in our body correspond to that of the influence of the planets. When the vibrations in the gemstones or navaratnas are in harmony with the particular vibrations of the wearer, they complement each other.

Each gem among the navaratnas has certain specific attributes and healing properties. Astrology believes the malefic effects of planets can be balanced by the effect of benefic planets when wearing Navaratna, thereby ensuring the general well being of the individual.

Navaratnas begin with the Sun represented by Ruby. This gem determines the personality of the individual and the individual’s social standing. The Moon is represented by Pearl which denotes stability and helps in strengthening the mental faculties of the individual. This is followed by Mars which is represented by Coral denoting intense energy and passion to the individual. The next in the order is Planet Mercury represented by Emerald. This gem influences a person's intelligence.

Emerald is followed by yellow sapphire the gem which represents Jupiter. It denotes luck and fortune and governs the individual's wealth, knowledge and spiritual orientation. Jupiter is followed by Venus represented by Diamond, influencing an individual's sensuality, physical appearance and luxuriousness.

Saturn is represented by Blue Sapphire. Saturn governs an individual's conscientiousness and prosperity in life. Rahu is represented by Hessonite denoting originality, inspiration and fulfillment of ambition. Ketu is represented by Cat's Eye. Ketu influences a person's spiritual life and intuitive powers.

The nine gems are set in a particular order starting with the ruby which represents the sun. The gems can in set in any formation but the order of priority remains the same.
